Terms & Conditions

These rules are in addition to the general terms and conditions of Countryside Burials.

1. Purpose and Principles

• Gardens of Rest is a dedicated Muslim section within the wider cemetery managed by

Countryside Burials Ltd. It operates in accordance with Islamic burial practices, UK legal

requirements, and the principles of a peaceful, natural woodland environment.

2. Eligibility for Burial

• Only Muslims may be buried in Gardens of Rest.

• A valid death certificate and completed cemetery application forms must be submitted.

• All burials must comply with statutory requirements and these cemetery rules.

3. Burial Rights and Plot Allocation

• Plots are issued with Exclusive Rights of Burial for a term of up to 50 years.

• At the time of burial, rights may be extended to ensure a full 50 years from the burial

date, but never beyond.

• Plots may be allocated in advance (with the option for double-depth) or non-allocated

(assigned at time of burial).

• The cemetery reserves the right to assign or adjust plot locations, though efforts will be

made to keep family plots together where possible.

• Pre-purchase grants burial rights only and does not confer land ownership.

4. Burial Conditions

• Only biodegradable burial materials are permitted: shrouds, body bags, or eco-friendly

coffins (e.g., pine from sustainable sources).

• Embalming is discouraged unless legally required.

• For stillbirths, appropriate certification must be provided.

5. Islamic Funeral Conduct

• All funerals must adhere to the Sunnah and Islamic etiquette:

• Funeral directors must:

• - Be a registered company

• - Hold valid public liability insurance

• - Be members of both www.saif.org.uk and www.nafd.org.uk

• A representative from Gardens of Rest must be present at every burial.• Only authorised personnel or approved family-led teams may conduct the burial.

• Families may assist in backfilling under staff supervision.

• Any requests to restrict attendance must be made in advance.

6. Cemetery Conduct

• Visitors must conduct themselves with dignity and respect. The following are strictly

prohibited:

• - Loud noise, smoking, vaping, or littering

• - Intoxication or disruptive behaviour

• - Disregarding staff instructions during a burial

• - Bringing animals (including dogs) without written approval

• - Allowing children under 12 to remain unsupervised

• - Eating, drinking, music, camping, or sports

• - Any actions contrary to Islamic teachings

• Visitors must follow all directions from cemetery staff and respect the privacy of other

mourners.

7. Memorials and Grave Markers

• Upright headstones are not permitted.

• A standard flat memorial plaque may be requested through the cemetery.

• All memorials must be modest, uniform, and in English and/or Arabic only.

• Memorials must be supplied by contractors approved by Countryside Burials Ltd.

• The cemetery accepts no responsibility for damage caused by machinery, weather, or

wildlife.

8. Appearance and Maintenance

• Communal areas are maintained by cemetery staff.

• Families are responsible for individual grave maintenance unless a Maintenance

Agreement is in place.

• No personal planting, candles, incense, or decorative items are permitted.

• Fresh flowers may be placed without plastic wrapping or containers.

9. Environmental Guidelines

• The cemetery supports and maintains a natural, woodland environment.

• Tree planting may be arranged through an official programme.

• Trees and wildflowers are unmarked and may be removed or relocated as required for

ecological balance.

• Artificial flowers, wreaths, or plastic decorations are not permitted.

10. Vehicles and Parking

• Vehicles must not exceed 5 mph on cemetery grounds.• Only designated roads and car parks may be used.

• Driving on grass or pedestrian walkways is strictly prohibited.

• All vehicles are parked at the owner's risk.

11. Security and Respect

• Vandalism, graffiti, or littering may result in legal action and removal from the

cemetery.

• Public speaking, selling, or leaflet distribution is not permitted without written

approval.

• Photography, filming, or drone use is prohibited unless prior consent is obtained.

• Staff reserve the right to refuse entry or remove individuals who violate these rules.

12. Exhumation and Legal Compliance

• Exhumation is only permitted with the full legal, religious, and cemetery approvals.

• No remains may be disturbed or relocated without compliance with UK law and Islamic

guidance.

13. Fees and Payments

• All fees must be paid in full prior to any burial.

• Fees are non-refundable and do not include charges from funeral directors or officiants.

• A full fee schedule is available upon request.

• Receipts are provided. Cash payments are not accepted.

14. Modesty and Dress Code

• All visitors must dress modestly in line with Islamic principles and show respect to the

deceased and other mourners.

15. Amendments and Final Authority

• Countryside Burials Ltd reserves the right to amend these rules at any time.

• In all matters of interpretation or dispute, the decision of the Cemetery Manager shall be

final.
